Thin, quiet linework. Script, small botanicals, ornamental pieces. Lines have to be spaced to stay open as skin ages, so fine line is drawn at its final size before it goes on.

Built on symmetry, so every placement is measured before a line is drawn. Dotwork builds depth without heavy black. Slow, patient work.

Saturated colour, bold shapes, soft bleeds. Colour and black cannot share a cartridge, so a colour piece uses more of them and takes longer to pack evenly.

not fresh photos
A tattoo is at its most flattering the minute it is finished: surface ink still sitting on the skin, and redness reading as contrast. Healed, you find out whether the lines held their weight or spread. Ask any artist for healed photographs in the style you want.

A tight close-up hides how a design sits on a curve, how it is proportioned to the limb, and where it was placed. Ask for the full shot. Placement is half the craft, and it is the half a crop is best at hiding.

Cover-ups go to the artist who specialises in them and has done the most of them. Covering existing ink means designing around someone else’s work, in their colours and at their size. Send a photograph on WhatsApp and you will get an honest answer about what is possible before you come in.
What makes a cover-up different from a new tattoo?
It has to be larger than the piece it hides, and it is built in layers. First the old tattoo is packed over in opaque grey to dull it down, which is the step that decides the result. The new design is then tattooed on top of that grey rather than on top of the old ink, and white is worked in last to lift the highlights. Skip the grey and the old piece reads through, or the two merge into something muddy.
Can you cover a scar with a tattoo?
Yes, once it has fully settled, usually about a year after surgery or injury. Designs that flow, like flowers and leaves, cover scars best. Send a photo on WhatsApp, or just describe it, and we will tell you honestly what is possible.
Can you cover an old name tattoo?
Yes, it is one of the most common cover-ups we do. The new design is larger and darker than the name and planned around the letters, so they do not show through.
Will my old tattoo show through a cover-up?
Not if it is planned properly. That is why the new design is built around the old one’s shape and its darkest areas, and why we tell you upfront if a tattoo is too dark to cover well.
How long after surgery can I tattoo over a scar?
Usually about a year, once the scar is flat, pale and no longer tender. Until then, the skin is still changing.
